HOUSTON (KTRK) —
Several Houston Police Department officers wrapped up a volunteer project to fix a woman’s home in north Houston.
The HPD volunteers finished work at the home along Maxroy near South Victory on Saturday.
The officers worked with Rebuilding Together Houston. Former mayor Bill White and former police chief Harold Hurtt started getting officers to volunteer to fix up the homes of needy Houstonians when they were in office.
“We’re finishing up the final thing today, which is the painting and striping it up. The last five days here we have been doing carpentry work. We finished with all the building, the deck, the carport, the front porch and other places around the house,” Assistant Chief Mark Curran said.
The volunteers also built a wheelchair ramp at the home next door.
