Habitat for Humanity will be repairing homes in partnership with qualified low-income homeowners. The Roof Repair Program is aimed at providing no-interest loans for roof repairs done by professional roofing contractors. A Brush With Kindness will provide minor exterior home repairs such as painting, concrete work, gutters, window caulking, door repair, fences and other services to qualified low-income homeowners.
“Habitat’s Roof Repair Program and A Brush With Kindness program are part of our larger Neighborhood Revitalization Initiative. This initiative gives us a great opportunity to help more families in need, as well as have an impact on the entire neighborhood,” said Megan Dobbe of Grand Island Area Habitat for Humanity. “Helping people repair and maintain their homes fits in seamlessly with Habitat’s core mission of making decent, affordable housing available to low-income families.”
Habitat for Humanity’s two new programs have a goal to serve homeowners who struggle to maintain the exterior of their homes because they are physically unable to complete the work themselves or due to an inability to afford the repairs. All roof work is completed by contracted professionals, using all-new, high-quality materials, and the work will always meet or exceed city codes.
Work other than roof repairs will typically be done by volunteers who will use high-quality materials under the supervision of a construction professional.
The homeowner must meet the qualifications for selection, including demonstrated need, willingness to partner and ability to repay a no-interest loan. Payments made by all partner families are placed in a revolving fund to help Habitat continue to serve others in need.
