San Diego State University students and alumni will spend
Saturday conducting an array of repairs at the home of an Oceanside
Marine veteran injured in a 2002 bombing in Afghanistan.
The work done under the auspices of the “Healing Our Heroes
Homes” program will result in a variety of improvements to the home
of Jason Swofford.
He was leading a squad in Afghanistan when a bombs hidden in a
building they were searching were triggered.
Swofford suffered numerous injuries, including the partial
amputation of an arm, blast burns and fractures.
The work planned for the home includes landscaping, interior and
exterior painting and replacing several windows, kitchen cabinets
and counters.
Workers also will replace gutters and make improvements to
electrical and plumbing fixtures.
The daylong project is funded by the Leichtag Family Foundation
along with volunteer contractors from Alliance Residential
Development.
