My house is just that, a house. Not a home. It has no soul and it is not a place I look forward to having friends come and see.
We are a bit short on money, so any tips / advice on home improvement for cheap?

Pick a theme for your kitchen, like apples they are cheerful or fruit. $store has nice curtains and matching apple stuff like soap dispenser. Clear cabinets, less is more to me in the kitchen. We’re all in a tight budget, i hear ya’… but first of all, i think you should know what style you like. For example: if you like neutral colors, then go with some small accent in dark brown wood, with some green and beige.
You can go to IKEA, and they have A LOT of things that are really nice for less.
