How Do You Replace a Section of Bathroom Wall?

FavoriteLoadingAdd to favorites

Help!! My father is away for the month and I’ve decided to do a little home improvement on his house (I do live here) particularly my bathroom. I was just removing the old dried up caulking from around the tub and when I got to the area by the wall a huge chunk of rotten wall came off with the caulk. Now I have to clean up my mess before he returns on the 24th. I consider myself a beginner, but I’ve helped my dad with home improvement over the years so I have a bit of knowledge. I think I have to start by removing the vanity that’s up against the same wall, then cut a hole in the sheet rock and then replace the section that is rotten. I really don’t want to make this worse! I do know how to put up sheetrock and tape and such. Any tips will be greatly appreciated! Thanks
