Call 4 Action

If you get a knock at the door from someone offering to fix your driveway or home, on the spot, for a discounted price, watch out.

You could be targeted by someone who plans to con you out of your cash or valuables, while performing shoddy workmanship or no work at all.

Here is how the scam works:

You receive a knock at the door from someone who claims to have leftover materials from another job, and can offer a big discount if you agree to a quick repair on the spot.

The problem is, the materials are often of poor quality and it could cost you more to correct the problem later due to shoddy workmanship.

Another twist to the scam involves someone coming to your door, claiming to be working on a project in your neighborhood, and giving you some reason why they need to come into your home, or have you go outside with them.

However, while you are being distracted by their phony explanation, another scam artist enters your home, and steals your belongings and cash.

If you get approached by one of these potential scam artists, be careful.  Do not pay or allow any work to be done until you check out this contractor’s reputation with a legitimate source.

Also, keep all of your doors locked, front and back, and do not let anyone in unless you can verify with a trusted source, like the police department, that they have a legitimate reason for being on your property.

If something seems suspicious, contact police immediately and warn your neighbors so that others do not get taken.
