Water Damage Repair and Procrastinating

Is it not just great to have to spend money for home repairs? Especially the ones that could have been avoided all together or at least lessened it you had acted faster instead of letting it linger on before you took care of it? Of course no one wants to have to spend their hard earned money on home repairs. It is much more satisfying to invest money in the home for things like decorating or renovating that makes a house more fun and comfortable to live in. You never get a lot of satisfaction from having to replace a roof. Building a brand new deck or remodeling a bathroom seems to be a more desirable choice.

The sad thing is that sometimes we do end up spending a lot more money than we would have had to if we took care of small issues when they are still small. Water problems are really the worst. You might spot a little faucet leak or a drip under the bathroom or kitchen sink and say that you will get to that the coming weekend. Before you know it the weekend plan has been stretched into six months and the damage has been done.

Just small water issues like that could mean that the floor is not roting, there could be sheet rock damage, and mold has probably already spread as well. What could have been just tightening a loose pipe fitting or replacing one for nothing or a few dollars, has turned into a few hundred. It is a shame to procrastinate like that, but many homeowners do it all of the time.

That was just an example of a small water damage issue, but they can get much bigger. One serious water issue that a homeowner might ignore or not even realize is taking place is when rainwater puddles too close to the foundation of the home. When this happens the solution can be as easy a repairing a gutter or routing a small drainage canal that will allow the standing water to run away from the home. This can be one of the biggest causes of foundation failure.

Foundation failure is a real big one when it comes to having it repaired. This might very well require a professional that will have to come in a jack up a part of the home and make repairs. You can count on the bill being a thousand dollars for some minor work or many thousands for more serious foundation failure.

So it really does not make that much difference whether you get a water damage issue on the inside of the home or are experiencing some water issue on the outside, they can all cost you money. Fix the small ones quickly and chances are you will avoid having to call in the professionals to fix things when they have outgrown your ability.
