EFFINGHAM COUNTY, GA (WTOC) – Volunteers are getting their hands dirty as they begin construction to repair a home destroyed in a fire in Effingham County.
Mary Wilson and her grown son had to move out of their house on Fay Street after a fire destroyed the kitchen and living room. The son suffered smoke-related injuries while trying to battle the blaze. The water and smoke damage was so significant the family had to move out of their home.
Volunteers with Habitat for Humanity are helping the family get back on their feet by rebuilding what was damaged in the fire. “This is a big loss. It can be anyone,” says volunteer, Larry Boyles.
Crews are assessing the damage and getting ready for construction. To finish the project Habitat for Humanity needs more volunteers and donations such as dumpsters, gloves, masks and cleaning supplies. If you would like to volunteer go to www.effinghamhabitat.org or call (912) 826-6433.
