FINAL TOUCH: Hazland paints the newly replaced wall of Isah’s house as other PBB Youth members look on.
KUCHING: Isah Bohari had thousands of reason to smile yesterday as her run down house was given a quick makeover by the PBB Youth of Kampung Tabuan Haji Drahman here.
The initiative by Demak Laut assemblyman Dr Hazland Abang Hipni saw the wooden wall, floors and roofing replaced with new materials as the condition of the house has deteriorated.
“This is just a temporary measure for the safety of the family. There are 10 people living in the house with two of them being disabled and sick,” said Dr Hazland who came to view the progress of the repair works yesterday.
According to Dr Hazland, Isah was actually listed to receive a repair grant worth RM13,000 from the Rural Development Ministry, but had to wait for her turn which might take some more time.
“This is why we came up with this initiative. We only repair critical sections costing around RM3,000. With this we hope it will give the family peace of mind, especially during rainy or stormy weather,” he said.
Isah, when met expressed her relief as the condition of the house in which the family had stayed for more than 40 years is prone to danger especially with its close proximity to Tabuan river.
“I am glad that assistance came in time. The effort by PBB will at least make us feel safer,” said Isah.
Also present yesterday was the village chief Jerawi Lias.
