Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) Beware of home repair scams. It’s a stern warning from the Binghamton Police Department.

If the following situation sounds familiar, you’re strongly encouraged to give the force a call.

As city residents continue to dry out and get on with their lives following the September flood, police believe a man and a woman are traveling around, claiming to make repairs, but really stealing from your home.

Police say they may offer to do unsolicited roof or driveway estimates, saying their work under warranty, free to the homeowner.

As they assess the damages, another member of their supposed repair staff burglarizes the home.

The couple was last seen on the city’s east side in an SUV.

The man is thought to be in his 50′s, with short dark hair and a goatee.

Meanwhile, she looks to be in her 40′s.

Oftentimes, one or both may talk in a foreign accent.

Binghamton Police say be alert and look out for your neighbors.

It’s especially common for scammers to prey upon the elderly.
