MIDDLETOWN, Ohio (WDTN) – A Middletown home was destroyed by flames, people inside were injured, and two family pets were killed.

The blaze even took a toll on nearby neighbors.

Luckily, two of the family’s pets made it out alive and were even treated for smoke inhalation.

Fire crews were called to the scene a little before midnight.

They arrived at the house in the 24-hundred block of South Sutphin St. near Grand Ave. in Middletown a short time after.

People living in the burning home were evacuated, as well as a person living in the house next door.

We spoke with fire officials who told us the fire was already through the roof by the time they got there, severely damaging the house to the left.

Two of the family’s pets died before firefighters could help, and it’s all thanks to one giving person they were able to save the other two animals.

“We actually have specific pet air way equipment that we can use to resuscitate them. Those were donated by an individual some time ago, so we’ll use those to aid in the recovery of the pet,” said Deputy Chief Brent Dominy of the Middletown Fire Department.

The two people from inside the home were taken to Atrium Medical Center.

No word yet on their conditions.

We are told the house is beyond repair.
