The owners of a house at the corner of North Hyatt and Plum streets have been given until Sept. 30 to remove or repair the structure that some fear is on the verge of collapse.
The leaning blue house at 204 N. Hyatt St. has been discussed off and on for a couple of years. The City Council in early 2010 approved changes in city codes to include provisions for allowing the city engineer to address unsafe structures.
City Engineer Scott Vagedes sent a letter to the property owners Aug. 12 asking for action after a city Planning Board member called for action on the property earlier that week. She said she feared the structure could collapse onto the nearby sidewalk.
