BELLEVUE, Wash. – Authorities say a Bellevue family was taking a child to Washington State University when flames destroyed their home Sunday morning.

The home in the 3200 block of 112th Avenue Southeast was damaged beyond repair.

Several callers to 911 reported seeing larges flames and hearing explosions coming from the house.

Firefighters worked for about 40 minutes to control the fire.

“What I saw was the whole backyard was lit up with yellow and red… and with smoke and flames shooting up over the top of the house… and when I got closer I could see the whole house was fully engulfed,” said a witness.

Firefighters found three vehicles in the garage and at first it was not clear if anyone was inside the house.

Investigators are still trying to determine the cause.
