BOSTON–(BUSINESS WIRE)–
New polling data showing voters overwhelmingly favor the Right to Repair
bill was released today in a letter to elected officials at the State
House. The poll, conducted by Boston-based firm, Anderson Robbins
Research, surveyed 401 voters and 84 percent said “yes” when asked, “if
the election were held today would you vote yes or no on the Right to
Repair ballot question?”
In addition to the poll, the letter to legislators cited a new
“CarTalk.com” website study indicating that in the local area, consumers
pay on average $420 more to get their cars repaired at a franchised
dealer than at independent neighborhood repair shops.
“This update to elected officials gives them new information on what
consumers already know —it is less expensive and more convenient to get
a car repaired at an independent repair shop,” said Art Kinsman of the
Massachusetts Right to Repair Coalition. “We will keep pressing for an
up or down vote on the Right to Repair legislation; if that is delayed,
we know that voters will vote yes on the ballot question this November,”
Kinsman added.
The Right to Repair voter initiative would, for the first time, allow
consumers to access all the non-proprietary information required to get
their cars fixed wherever they choose. The proposed law would level the
playing field between the big car manufacturers’ dealerships and
independent, neighborhood repair facilities. Consumers will finally be
able to access the same automobile diagnostic and repair information
that is currently only available to the manufacturer’s dealers and their
authorized repair facilities.
