I have a background in the construction/skilled trades. I worked for a heating and air conditioning company for five years, a temp employee for AT&T for about 5 months(Installation & repair technician), and was a plumbing specailist for two major home improvement stores. This is the first year since high school I’ve not had a job, and I **** sitting aroung at home.

Advertise yourself as a handyman, working self employed while you send out C.V.s and applications to everything and anything. You could do gardens, leaky pipes, painting etc and earn a bit of cash.
Start with the yellowpages. Luckily construction and most trade oriented companies will keep their names in the yellowpages. Start with the big ones first. The ones that pay to have the big ads placed in the yellowpages. Go to their offices with your resume and dressed moderately clean cut. Ask to speak to a manager about employment. Tell them what you have done and ask them if they could use a dependable reliable employee.
You’ll have a job in no time. … Yes it will be a bit like door to door salesmen for your job. But hey, that may show that you are willing to get out there and do what it takes to get the job.. and get the job done. (Brush up on your knowledge … most likely they will ask you on the spot questions on how to fix this and how to do that… answer right and you may get yourself a job faster than you can say Maytag)
Most of these places will not post in the paper or one big career websites.. this is why you need to go the in person route…. Another big place to start is at the Local Union Head Quarters. This would also be a great place to start and recieve some serious sound advice.
