If Money Was in the Budget, What Kind of Home Improvements Would You Do?

FavoriteLoadingAdd to favorites

I had to delete my previous question because after getting my first response I realize that how it was worded made me come off as a complete idiot and it was worded wrong. So, here I go again this time I’ll be more careful on how I word it. LMAO
I realize now after being in our home for almost 7yrs. that there’s things about the house that I would love to put on the home improvement list. I’d have an arms length of projects to take care of. Like so many others, it’s just not in the budget! What would you do with your home that you’ve been wanting to do for a long time but, unable to due so due to it not being within the budget?

This is my home improvement list:
Tear up all the carpeting and lay down flooring~ hard wood/tile
More counter space in the kitchen
repair some of the dents, bad patch job under the paint jobs from previous owners, tear down the wallpaper and paint.
New Windows~ the woodwork on our windows outside is horrible weather has beaten them up.
Better lawn- there’s so many rocks and the grass feels like sharp straw instead of a nice green full plush lawn that’s not patchy or rocky
New Window treatment down the road as we have a toddler so, as you can tell a lot of stuff would have to wait anyways until he’s older even if the money was there. LOL
Thanks everyone for sharing I appreciate it. I’m sure we’d all love to do some stuff around our homes if we just had the money. We’re a one person income so,things are definitely on a tight budget here!
Hey snowman swing by give me an estimate on my windows they’re crap! lol
We all seem to have similar wish lists and some added luxuries. I’d like to have a multi-level deck myself. I’m in the beginning process of redoing the landscaping in our front island it’s crap as well but, hopefully in due time it will be back to it’s original beauty. lol rocks/clay is what I have to work with there. woo hoo! full sun as well so, I’ll be planting some perinial seeds. forgetmenots is one of them I forgot what else I picked up. Bulbs didn’t work in there too well. I have a black thumb a cactus died on me. What does that tell you! rmao… You have to have a sense of humor with it all or you’ll go nuts!

Change all the plumbing pipes since they are real old
    New Windows
    New lawn and landscaping
    New Carpet

Oh Honey don’t I wish. I would redo 3 of my bathrooms. Lay Brazilian walnut hardwoods in my entire upstairs (except bathrooms). Remove all the popcorn ceilings. Redo and extend our back deck. Add cabinets to the other side of my kitchen and get new Silestone counter tops. I have a large laundry room (it’s about 160 sq.ft.if I remember correctly) that is finished but not much was ever done in the way of adding cabinets, storage anything like that. I would like for it to have a utility sink and basically be turned into a proper mud/laundry room. We have 2 acres and only the area around the pool is fenced. We would love to have more fencing to let the dogs run in. And I would love to do a little landscaping as well. This has been a fun question. I hope some or all of your wish list comes true. One step at a time and you’ll get there!

get the roof fixed! that is the highest priority but the lowest quote for it so far was $15 000.
extend the back veranda as it can get quite hot in the kitchen due to the previous owners extending the kitchen all the way out.
re floor the lower storey- I’d like to put in bamboo or mahogany floorboards rather than the icky carpet.
put in a retaining wall between our house and the place next door, so that the next time it floods the water goes around the house rather than through it!
get the creek landscaped so that it both looks nice and is safer to have children around it- I’ve been told that there are a couple of vintage car bodies buried in the more inaccessible spots that I would like removed.
replace the missing crystals on the chandeliers and get new ones to replace the ones the previous owners removed from the entry hall.
replace the upstairs spa with a more efficient model, I want one that lights up with a built in radio like the one downstairs

for you, I agree… the windows…. not only will they help the place look better, but they’ll help you SAVE MONEY that you can use to do the other fixin’s……

then do all the wallpaper and painting… that’s cheaper work… and keeps you from wrecking the next job, the new floors…. *smile*….

for me, it’s kitchen cabinets…. my hubby is going to build them himself… someday….. sigh…..
