I’m sick of the countertops in my house. I love building and repairing, but I’ve never done anything along the lines of home improvement. I’d like to start with the countertops and work my way down to the flooring and base boards… which I don’t know where to start either, haha.

you sound mechanily inclined so just get a how to book at the home depot.
Go to one of the big home improvement stores. They have classes in things such as that. You can also try books—also available at home improvement stores.
Be prepared—there are some countertops that you will have a hard time doing alone either because the manufacturer insists on having one of their trained people do it, or because it it just so cumbersome and heavy that you physically cannot do it unassisted.
the countertops sold at the home centers are fairly easy to install. they have endcap kits mounting hardware, and corner joining kits available with all the instructions for assembly. when cutting to length, be sure to apply masking tape on the top where you’ll be cutting to help avoid chipping of the laminate and use a small tooth (plywood) blade. when caulking the backsplash and/or ends, make sure you use kitchen/ bath caulk ( painters caulk will mildew & wear after a while) there’s a trick to applying that the right way. should be on the label of the tube, good luck
