MINNEAPOLIS – With the final repairs complete, the Metrodome is once again ready to host the Vikings — and the Metropolitan Sports Facilities Commission gave FOX 9 News a sneak peek at the new roof and turf.

In about two weeks, the Vikings first game in Minnesota will be played a week before the open house at the stadium, where fans will see the new turf, the lighter, brighter roof and flaps on the panels to help with acoustics.

“Everybody saw that horrific footage that showed the roof coming down,” said Bill Lester.

Lester said there have been thousands of requests from more than 40 states requesting pieces of the old Dome, and the first 3,000 fans to attend the upcoming open house will get a slice.

Though the Vikings only have one year left on their contract with the Metrodome, Lester said he doesn’t believe it’ll be the team’s last year in the stadium.

“I’d be amazed if it ends up being their last year,” he said. “Even off the old met stadium, both the Vikes and Twins played there for six or seven years on one-year contracts while they resolved their issues.”

The final touches for the Metrodome will involve painting the field and removing some out-of-date banners.
