Actually, the repair should be added to the cost of the house.

Only on certain things. It varies by state and country. In the United States, you can take deductions on installing a new efficient toilet and more efficient windows. If you are doing things yourself, ask at the store where you are buying supplies – they will know.

Not all repairs will be added to the cost of the house. If you have already closed on the home, there is little you can do about getting the costs paid for. What is considered a “repair” varies and you will only be compensated if there was major undisclosed damage such as water or electrical damage or mold.

No. It goes into your basis. It can only help you if it is sold at a gain.

repairs to the bathroom are considered ‘living expenses’ while you live there
if you added a bathroom, or completely changed the configuration of the bathroom that would increase the value of the house this could be added to basis
but simply repairing it is expense of ‘living’

No – for a repair, there is no deduction and you do not add the cost to the basis of your house. If you added a bathroom, or did a major remodel, you’d add the cost to your basis.

I think you wan’t get any deduction.
